Cor Angar
Also known as: Cor-Angar, Angar
Cor Angar is the Templar commander of the Brotherhood of the Sleeper and the third most powerful figure in the Sect Camp, behind the prophet Y’Berion and high priest Cor Kalom. Where Kalom directs the Brotherhood’s spiritual and ritual affairs, Angar is its military dimension: the man who trains, deploys, and commands the Templars who guard the camp and enforce the Brotherhood’s interests throughout the valley.
Title and Rank
The prefix Cor in Angar’s name designates his senior standing within the Brotherhood’s warrior hierarchy, distinguishing him from the “Gor Na” Templars who serve beneath him. This naming convention reflects the Brotherhood’s broader use of language and ceremony to mark degrees of initiation and authority. Angar did not acquire his title merely through longevity; development notes from the Gothic Archive describe him as a former Templar elevated to leadership because he was judged the right kind of hard, capable, and ruthless individual to command men in difficult conditions.
Military Function
As Templar commander, Cor Angar is responsible for the Brotherhood’s armed strength. His Templars guard the Swamp Camp’s approaches, escort diggers working at the Old Mine, and enforce the cult’s interests in negotiations and exchanges. He also functions as the gatekeeper to Templar rank: a novice who has earned sufficient standing and wants to advance must win Cor Angar’s approval, which is not given freely. His assessment of a candidate’s toughness and commitment is the final hurdle before promotion.
Story Arc
Angar’s role expands significantly in the game’s second half. After Y’Berion’s awakening vision leaves the prophet severely injured, Angar personally tends to him — dismissing Cor Kalom’s interference with characteristic curtness. When the Nameless Hero returns from the Orc Cemetery, Angar dispatches him to gather healing herbs in a last attempt to save Y’Berion. On Y’Berion’s deathbed, the prophet delivers a final revelation to Angar: the Sleeper is not a god but a demon. This knowledge, coming directly from Y’Berion, transforms Angar’s understanding of what the Brotherhood has been doing.
After Y’Berion’s Death
When Cor Kalom, unwilling to accept the demon revelation, takes a faction of novices and Templars and withdraws toward the Sleeper’s Temple to complete the awakening by force, Cor Angar holds what remains of the camp together. He does not attempt to stop the Hero from pursuing Kalom and destroying the Sleeper. Having absorbed Y’Berion’s final truth, he understands that the banishing is necessary — and that the Brotherhood’s mission was corrupted long before the camp’s founding.
