Gomez
Gomez is the self-proclaimed king of the Old Camp — the most powerful and most feared man inside the Barrier, and the secondary antagonist of Gothic and its 2026 Remake.
Rise to Power
Gomez arrived in the Valley of Mines as a convicted prisoner, like everyone else inside the Barrier. When the containment spell went catastrophically out of control during its casting, the resulting chaos created a brief window in which the original royal guards — outnumbered and unprepared for an uprising — could be overpowered. Gomez seized that window, leading a successful revolt and establishing himself as the dominant force among the prisoners. Those who had backed him were rewarded with comfortable positions forming the new order’s inner hierarchy; those who had not were left with the worst jobs, the lowest rations and no protection. The revolt was swift, opportunistic and total — exactly the kind of move that reveals both the man’s capability and his willingness to exploit suffering.
The Ore Baron’s Court
From the castle at the center of the Old Camp, Gomez runs the colony’s most profitable enterprise: a deal with King Rhobar II that exchanges roughly 200 bags of magic ore per month for food, weapons, supplies, goods — and women. The arrangement gives the Old Camp a direct line to royal resources that neither the New Camp nor the Brotherhood can match. Gomez does not manage the details himself; that falls to his inner circle. Raven serves as his right hand, Bartholo handles the trade ledger, and Arto and Scar guard his person. Thorus controls the castle gate, and the Shadows — including Diego, Fisk, Sly and Whistler — handle the errands and enforcement that the Ore Barons prefer not to be seen doing directly.
Character and Governance
Gomez is not a subtle ruler. Greedy, impulsive and easily angered, he governs through fear rather than consent, and has no patience for deliberation or challenge. When a situation turns against him, his response is force; when a trusted ally becomes inconvenient, that ally becomes expendable. This character flaw drives the endgame’s most consequential act of escalation: when the Old Mine collapses and the ore supply that sustains his deal with the King dries up, Gomez orders an assault on the New Camp’s Free Mine to compensate. Corristo, leader of the Magicians of Fire, openly refuses to sanction the attack — and Gomez, rather than accept contradiction, has Corristo and the entire Fire Mage circle executed.
Final Confrontation
With the Old Mine collapsed and the mages dead, Gomez’s grip on the colony grows increasingly paranoid and violent. The Nameless Hero — whatever camp he belongs to — eventually storms the castle, cuts through the guards and confronts Gomez in his own hall. Despite his bodyguards and considerable personal combat ability, Gomez is defeated and killed, removing the last major obstacle between the Hero and the Sleeper’s Temple and closing the secondary antagonist’s arc.
