Gor Na Vid
Також відомий як: Gor-Na-Vid
Gor Na Vid is a Templar of the Brotherhood of the Sleeper assigned to the Old Mine area during the events of Gothic (2001). His honorific prefix “Gor Na” marks him as a lower-ranking Templar within the Brotherhood’s internal hierarchy, a step beneath the “Cor”-ranked Templars who hold command authority. Several named Gor Na Templars serve the Sect Camp across the valley; Gor Na Vid is specifically deployed to or near the Old Mine.
The Brotherhood’s Ranking System
The Brotherhood of the Sleeper operates a tiered naming convention that reflects spiritual seniority and disciplinary rank. Novices bear no special prefix; those who have proven dedication receive the “Gor Na” designation and take on active roles including mine guard duties and errands for higher Templars. Senior Templars bear “Cor” prefixes, and the singular supreme Templar, Cor Angar, commands all others. Gor Na Vid sits at the same tier as Gor Na Bar and Gor Na Kosh, the other named Templars stationed in the Old Mine area. All three answer ultimately to the Sect Camp’s spiritual leadership.
Role in the Old Mine
Gor Na Vid is encountered during the quest to recover minecrawler secretion, which requires the Nameless Hero to open a sealed gate deep in the mine. When the gate swings open, a surge of Minecrawlers storms the passage, and the gate operator Asghan will not work the winch without adequate protection. At least two of the three available Templars must agree to stand guard before Asghan will proceed. All three are proficient combatants; the Hero may not receive experience credit for kills they land first, making their participation a double-edged benefit in terms of levelling efficiency.
Distinguishing Condition
Unlike Gor Na Bar and Gor Na Kosh, who agree to help when approached directly, Gor Na Vid will only commit if the Nameless Hero first provides him with a healing potion. This condition makes him the most expensive of the three to recruit and the one most players defer or avoid if potions are scarce. The demand is framed not as greed but as pragmatism: a man about to face a tunnel full of chitinous predators wants some assurance of recovery if the fight goes badly.
Developer In-Joke
The named Gor Na Templars of the Sect Camp carry names derived from characters in the science-fiction television series Babylon 5, a recurring in-joke among Piranha Bytes’ developers during Gothic’s production. The practice reflects the studio’s willingness to embed pop-culture references in minor NPCs without disrupting the game’s grimly grounded fantasy tone, rewarding attentive players who recognised the allusions while leaving the broader narrative unaffected.
