Secretion of the Minecrawlers

Also known as: Minecrawler Eggs, The Queen's Nest, Crawler Secretion

Secretion of the Minecrawlers is a Chapter 2 main quest assigned by Cor Kalom in the Sect Camp’s alchemy laboratory once the Focus Stone has been delivered to Y’Berion. Kalom explains that ordinary Minecrawler mandible secretion — commonly traded as a commodity throughout the Colony — is too chemically weak to sustain the Great Calling ritual. He requires eggs harvested directly from the Minecrawler queen’s nest, deep inside the Old Mine. The quest awards 5,500 XP on completion.

Access: The Gear Wheel and Ian’s Password

Entry to the queen’s chamber requires solving two sequential gates. The first obstacle is a broken ore masher in a side tunnel of the Old Mine’s lower levels. A missing gear wheel has been removed from the masher and must be recovered from the surrounding area — guarded by three Minecrawlers, though a ledge path allows a careful approach without triggering them. Returning the gear wheel to Ian, the mine’s supply overseer, earns not a key but a password for the second gate.

That second gate is guarded by Asghan, the lower-level sentry. Presenting the password gets the gate open in principle, but Asghan refuses to proceed alone — the area beyond is too dangerous for one guard. He demands the Hero recruit three Sect Camp Templars as escorts: Gor Na Kosh, Gor Na Vid (who requires a healing potion before agreeing), and Gor Na Bar. All three must be spoken to and committed before Asghan will unlock the passage.

The Queen’s Chamber

Beyond the gate a linear tunnel runs through dense concentrations of Minecrawlers before opening into a large end chamber. The Minecrawler Queen stands near the center — immobile but substantially tougher than standard specimens, requiring meaningful combat preparation or high combat skill to defeat efficiently. Killing her allows the Hero to collect eggs from the chamber floor. Reporting her death to Ian yields six beers as a minor side reward — a practical acknowledgment that the mine’s daily operation is no longer endangered by the nest.

Cor Kalom’s Reward

Delivering the eggs to Kalom triggers a reward selection. He offers five options:

  • An Essence of the Spirit potion.
  • 100 ore nuggets.
  • An Essence of Life potion.
  • A Light rune.
  • The two-handed weapon Stone Crusher.

Remaining eggs in inventory have additional utility: showing them to Raven in the Old Camp or Mordrag in the New Camp yields extra XP from characters who have independent interest in the mine’s status.

Onward

Kalom then identifies the third and final component needed before the Great Calling can begin: the Almanac of the Sleeper, a ritual text whose location he leaves the Hero to investigate. This connects directly to the transition event triggered once all three components are assembled — the Failed Great Calling and the narrative pivot that defines Chapter 2’s conclusion.
