Focus for the Gurus

Також відомий як: Focus for the Gurus, The Focus Stone, Retrieve the Focus, Nyras and the Stone

Focus for the Gurus is the first main quest of Chapter 2 in Gothic (2001) and its 2026 Remake, and uniquely among Chapter 2 quests it activates regardless of which of the three camps the Nameless Hero joined in Chapter 1. The trigger is a conversation with Lester at the main gate of the Sect Camp, who directs the Hero inside to see Y’Berion. Visiting Y’Berion simultaneously launches this quest and Secretion of the Minecrawlers, the parallel Chapter 2 errand.

The Request

Y’Berion, the Brotherhood’s High Guru, explains that the Great Calling ritual requires a Focus Stone — one of the five magical artifacts the Circle of Water originally used to weave the Barrier around the Colony. The Barrier’s construction consumed specific resonance stones, and the Brotherhood believes that one of these stones can amplify their rituals of communion with the Sleeper. Y’Berion dispatched a novice named Nyras to retrieve a specimen from the coastal cliffs northeast of the Sect Camp, but Nyras never returned. Y’Berion provides a hand-drawn map marking the cliff location and urges the Hero not to delay.

The Route and Confrontation

The path leads out of the Sect Camp’s northeast gate, follows the cliff wall past a cluster of Scavengers, and winds around to a clifftop overlook above the ocean. The Focus Stone rests on a stone pedestal at the overlook. No puzzles or locked doors intervene — the principal dangers are the Scavengers along the approach and any Lurkers near the coastal shoreline.

Nyras stands beside the pedestal and refuses to surrender the stone. He reports receiving a private vision from the Sleeper declaring the stone his by divine right, then immediately attacks. The Hero may kill him outright or incapacitate him through combat; neither outcome generates any camp reaction or follow-up consequence. The stone is taken either from Nyras’s body or from the pedestal. Importantly, any Focus Stone already in the Hero’s inventory when he speaks to Y’Berion will satisfy the quest trigger — the cliff specimen is simply the easiest of the five stones to reach at this point in the game.

Completion and Handoff

Returning the stone to Y’Berion earns an Amulet of Flames for Heroes who are not Brotherhood members (Brotherhood Novices receive a different acknowledgment). Y’Berion then directs the Hero to carry the stone to Cor Kalom’s alchemy laboratory in the camp’s northeast corner, closing this quest and immediately opening the next stage in Kalom’s ritual chain. Kalom’s subsequent assignments — the Minecrawler egg errand and the search for the Almanac of the Sleeper — form the remaining prerequisites before the Great Calling can be attempted.

Remake Notes

The 2026 Remake preserves the quest structure and the Nyras encounter intact. Quest-log objectives and voice lines are expanded throughout, and the coastal cliffs receive more detailed environmental dressing — making the approach feel like a genuine excursion to the Colony’s edge rather than a short fetch run.
