Mordrag

Також відомий як: Mordrag the Rogue

Mordrag is a rogue in the New Camp serving under Lares, but his practical value to the story lies in a diplomatic loophole: the Magicians of Water use him as a courier between themselves and the Magicians of Fire in the Old Camp, granting him a level of immunity from the Old Camp’s guards that no ordinary New Camp operative could enjoy. He exploits that immunity to fence stolen Ore Baron goods back into the Old Camp through the trader Fisk, working both sides of the colony’s political divide simultaneously.

First Encounter and Thorus’s Assignment

The Nameless Hero first encounters Mordrag at the Old Camp’s south gate area, identifiable by his blue armour against the outer ring’s browns and greys. Guard captain Thorus knows what Mordrag is doing but cannot act directly against a Water Mage courier without risking a diplomatic incident with the Circle of Water. He assigns the Hero to handle the problem discreetly. Three resolutions are available, each with distinct consequences. Killing Mordrag yields 300 experience points and Thorus’s full endorsement. Beating him until he agrees to leave satisfies Thorus but costs Fisk his fence, damaging Fisk’s goodwill and potentially blocking his admission vote. Escorting Mordrag safely to the New Camp yields 250 experience points, earns Thorus’s backing, and preserves Fisk’s supply chain intact. The escort route carries an additional benefit: Mordrag gives the Hero his personal ring as a token of gratitude, and Lares accepts that ring as a form of introduction and proof of good faith for the Rogues questline.

Life in the New Camp

After being removed from the Old Camp by any method short of death, Mordrag relocates to Silas’s tavern in the New Camp, where he remains available for further interaction. If the Nameless Hero joins the Rogues, Lares assigns Mordrag to spy on the Sect Camp; Mordrag passes that assignment directly to the Hero, redirecting him to approach Lester for initial access. Later in the questline, after the Hero delivers minecrawler eggs to Cor Kalom of the Brotherhood, Mordrag dismisses the awakening ritual as foolish nonsense, reflecting his pragmatic and irreverent view of the colony’s factions.

Faction Significance

Mordrag’s character encapsulates the colony’s grey-zone politics. He is nominally a New Camp operative, functionally a neutral merchant, and tactically a liability to Thorus. His relationship with Fisk illustrates how the two camps maintained covert economic ties even while competing politically. In a colony where ore is the only currency and faction loyalty determines survival, Mordrag’s willingness to trade across those lines made him simultaneously valuable and expendable.

Gothic 1 Remake Context

The Remake preserves Mordrag’s triangular role — Thorus antagonist, Fisk supplier, Lares asset — and the three-outcome encounter at the south gate. His blue armour, distinctive in the outer ring, is retained as an immediate visual identifier.
