Scatty

รู้จักกันในชื่อ: Scatty the Arena Master

Scatty is a Shadow of the Old Camp who serves as intendant of the outer ring arena, managing bouts, overseeing wagers, and exercising authority over the fighting pit that extends considerably beyond his formal rank. Several camp residents owe him money — Fletcher is a notable example — giving him informal leverage in addition to his administrative control. In the evenings, Diggers and Shadows fill the stands to watch the bouts, making the arena one of the outer ring’s most socially active locations.

Arena and Camp Admission

Scatty’s endorsement is required for the Nameless Hero to be admitted to the Old Camp as a Shadow, and he will not give it based on reputation or conversation alone. The Hero must enter the arena and fight. The first required opponent is Kirgo, a Guard stationed in the camp; defeating Kirgo earns moderate approval. The second is Kharim, a mercenary fighter of considerably higher skill. Winning against Kharim delivers a substantial endorsement contribution; even a loss registers partial credit, giving the Hero an incentive to attempt the fight regardless of current combat ability. Sharing a drink with Kirgo before the bouts surfaces a fragment of the Nameless Hero’s own backstory, one of the few moments where the protagonist’s pre-imprisonment life is briefly acknowledged.

Trainer Role

Beyond his administrative function, Scatty trains one-handed combat, the primary melee skill for most players during the early game. His instruction is available across two tiers, each requiring both an ore payment and a minimum skill-point threshold. He is the most accessible melee trainer in the Old Camp during the early chapters, making his hut — positioned near Fingers’ hut in the outer ring — a natural stop alongside the lockpicking trainer for Heroes developing a combat and thieving skill set.

Guild Anomaly

Despite presenting as a Shadow and filling an administrative role aligned with the Shadows, Scatty’s internal guild designation in the original game is Guard rather than Shadow. He carries a crossbow rather than the bows more commonly associated with Shadows, and his character level exceeds every other Shadow in the Old Camp except Diego. This apparent inconsistency may reflect the ambiguous administrative status of arena management within the camp’s hierarchy, or an oversight in the game’s character data — either interpretation sits comfortably within the Old Camp’s generally improvised social structure.

Later History

In Gothic II: Night of the Raven, Scatty reappears as a member of Raven’s bandit company in the coastal region of Jharkendar, continuing the pattern shared by several Old Camp survivors who attached themselves to Raven’s second venture after the colony’s collapse. His survival and continued fighting career align with his characterisation as the colony’s most committed combat organiser.
